Many different forms of carpet cleaning are available - from wet cleaning, dry cleaning, do~it~yourself to hiring a professional team of cleaners - the type of cleaning you choose will be dependent on how much cleaning is to be done, what type of carpets you need to clean, and whether it is industrial carpet cleaning or residential carpet cleaning.   Some carpet cleaning equipment can be hired and undertaken by you, or you can hire a professional carpet cleaning company.   Whether the cleaning is for a residential or commercial purposes, if you have a lot to clean, say the whole house, then it is best to hire a professional carpet cleaning company.   Let them do the hard work, and you can just enjoy clean and fresh carpets afterwards!

In the home, spot cleaning is very common, and for this there are a great many spray-on solutions available, some work as liquids and some have a foaming action.   Always get professional advice or, at least, test the cleaning agent on a small piece of carpet in an inconspicuous place.   Satisfied that the product is correct and will not damage your carpets, just spray the cleaner onto the dirty area of the carpet, scrub or just leave to soak according to instructions, and then simply vacuum up when dry.   Spray-on cleaning products work at their best when a stain is caught quickly and when it is not too large.   They are not the most effective cleaning product, but are quite sufficient for small scale domestic use.

For larger areas, perhaps as a part of a spring clean, shampoo and 'bonnet' cleaners are required.   Both spray a liquid cleaning solution into your carpet and work it in either through rotary brush action (shampoo) or by rotating orizontally on the carpet (bonnet).   The cloth bonnet can be rinsed out and turned over numerous times.   Both these methods use a motorised cleaner to infuse water and cleaning aent into your carpet, rubbing it in and working it around thouroughly so it reaches deep into the pile of the carpet.   Then, simply wait for it to dry, thoroughly vacuum everything up, and your carpets should look like new!

In commercial premises, such as schools, offices and businesses, low-pile carpet is the most comon form of floor covering, and for cleaning such carpets the dry shampooing method is most comonly used.   This works much like bonnet cleaning above, except that no water is used.  A powder cleaning agent is applied to the carpet, and is left typically for 15 to 30 minutes so that it attracts the dirt in the pile of the carpet, before it is vacuumed up.   Some claim that this is not as effective as the wet cleaning method for removing dirt, but for regular cleaning of large scale areas it is perhaps the most effective method in terms of cost, time and cleaning efficiency.

Another technique for cleaning your carpets is to hire a steam cleaner.   Steam cleaning can be done by you or by professionals: you can hire a steam cleaner, but it is a technique most commonly used by professional cleaning companies.   Hot water is mixed with a cleaning agent, and this is sprayed under pressure into the carpeting.   Unlike the other methods where the cleaning agent is left to work, with steam cleaners the water/cleaner/dirt mix is sucked up almost immediately through a vacuum wand.   As this method uses both water and heat, it typically picks up more dirt than the two methods mentioned above.

To keep your carpeting fresh and hygienic, most professionals will advocate having your carpets professionally steam cleaned once a year.   Not only does this method of cleaning remove dirt, it can also extend the lifespan of you carpets by preventing the nap from flattening and by keeping the colours fresh and vibrant.

Of all the methods this is the most expensive, regardless of whether you rent a cleaner, buy one for home use or hire professionals.   Because this method is best for large scale jobs (such as a whole house clean) and requires the moving of furniture (domestic or residential) it is normally only something you would have done once a year.

The shampoo and bonnet methods of cleaning are very good for single rooms, or for a stained area too large for spot-cleaning, typically this could be traffic patterns.   Spray-on cleaners are only suitable for smaller stains.

Many people are concerned about the harsh chemicals used in carpet cleaners, for environmental reasons, or because there are babies in the house, people who are chemically sensitie or people who have allergies.   To meet these concerns environmentally sensitive and eco-friendly cleaning agents have been developed; look for these on the shelves when you are going to do a bit of sef-cleaning, or ask your local professional cleaning company about the eco-friendly and hypoallergenic options available.   They will be happy to advise you and answer your questions.

Once you know what needs to be cleaned, and what your needs are, choosing a carpet cleaner is not difficult.   And a clean, fresh, vibrant carpet can be yours: ust think how much brighter your room(s) will look once the carpet as been thoroughly cleaned.
